Fire Guts Abandoned Business

By Jason Linetsky

Photos by Lloyd Mitchell A two-alarm fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 13th at a defunct car wash.

According to the FDNY, the blaze engulfed the property located at 1437 Utica Avenue off Farragut Road.

Engine Company 310 and Ladder Company 174 were the first on the scene with additional firehouses joining in. Units were forced to fight the blaze from the street with heavy fire in the building.

Fire marshals will determine the cause of the fire. Since the car wash business closed, the lot has been utilized as a parking lot for an auto body repair shop. It is unknown how many of the vehicles were damaged by the fire.
