EMS responded to the scene and found Powell unconscious and unresponsive. She was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her husband, Frank, 89, was a passenger in the car and is in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital.

A family member told the Canarsie Courier that Norma and her husband have been living on East 98th Street for 26 years.
