Shooting Hoops For Peace

Basketball players competing in the Hoops For Peace Event. Photos by Lloyd Mitchell There’s nothing like a game of basketball to bring people together. To help strengthen ties between the NYPD and the community, NYC Parks hosted their second Hoops for Peace Basketball Game at the Brownsville Recreation Center on Friday, April 29th. The friendly competition – between members of the NYPD Gang Unit and area All-Star teens – encourages police officers to form a bond with teens and open the lines of communication to bridge the gap between the two groups. Officers from the 79th and 88th precincts hit the courts. The green team defeated the orange team 54 to 49. Deonate McNeil,14, was named best Defensive Player, and Elijah Ramos,14, was named Most Valuable Player.
