Sinkhole In Flatbush Almost Swallows Truck

By Ulrik Narcisse

Sanitation trucks are normally used to take garbage off the streets, but on Tuesday the street took trash removal to whole other level! A sinkhole mysteriously popped up in the parking lot of a Retro Fitness and 7-Eleven located on Flatbush Avenue and nearly swallowed a garbage truck that belonged to a private waste collection company.

Officials quickly cordoned off the surrounding area around the parking lot due to concerns that the ground was unstable. Five Star Carting Inc., the garbage collection company, declined to comment.

According to an ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter, police said that the truck driver bypassed a yellow bar at the entrance to the lot which signifies the area cannot withstand the weight of larger vehicles. Stores in the immediate area remained open, but it was unclear, as of Tuesday, when the parking lot would be repaired or reopened.
