Holy Family Church

Holy Family Parish has been shining star in the Canarsie community since 1880. As we celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Christ presence in our community, we each seek the wisdom, the peace and the joy Christ can provide. Indeed, we are “Holy Family united as one family.” Thank you for sharing your gifts with Jesus through your generous donation to Holy Family this Christmas season. May the Lord continue to bless and strengthen us as we journey together to Jesus.

During the month of January, we have several events to make it a particular time to reflect on life. The first week of the month is National Immigrant Week. On January 17th, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 22nd we remember the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court Decision which legalized abortion at the expense of human babies. We put those together to affirm the dignity and sanctity of all human life; whether that life is an unborn child, a person with different skin color or country of origin (legal or illegal), an elderly person, a poor or homeless one, the physically or mentally challenged, or even, perhaps, a person who may have been convicted of a serious crime.

Our Catholic faith causes us to work for ways to protect all life, especially the poor and the vulnerable, and to work for Justice and Peace.

This week is National Vocation Awareness week. It is a reminder that we are all called to holiness by our baptism. It is a special reminder to pray for vocations of priests, sisters, brothers and deacons.

If anyone is considering these vocations, please speak to someone on our parish staff or call Fr. Kevin Sweeney or Sr. Regina Wilson IHM at the Vocation office 399-5500 Ext. 5555

We are looking for volunteers who can sew to make blankets for babies born with AIDS.

Materials and instructions will be provided.

If you are interested, please see Fr. Mike.
