Our Lady Of Miracles

Our schedule of masses is: Saturday at 5:30 PM, Sunday at 8:30 AM (English), 10:30 AM (English & Italian), 12:30 (French & Creole).

Religious Education Office is now open for registration of new and re-registration of continuing students. All Catholic, grammar school-aged children, who attend Public Schools, must also attend Religious Education Classes EVERY YEAR! Office is open on Sundays, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Monday thru Thursday from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Please call for an appointment. 718-649-0006. You must bring your child/children’s Baptismal Certificate, Parish Envelope number and Appropriate Fee.

The Diocese is planning another Marian Pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. It is scheduled for Saturday October 23, 2004. We will be reserving a bus to take pilgrims from Our Lady of Miracles Parish. The bus will be leaving at 6:00 AM and returning around 11:00 PM on the same day. If interested call the rectory at 718-257-2400.

Our Food Pantry, sponsored by the Canarsie Cluster, (Our Lady of Miracles, St. Jude & Holy Family) is available for those in need. It is open on Fridays & Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM both days.

If you, or your family, are in need of food, please stop by the rear basement doors of Our Lady Miracles Rectory on the days listed. Also, anyone who cares to donate any food, the pantry is always is in need of dry milk, cold cereal, peanut butter & jelly, mayonnaise, cooking oil, tuna fish, corned beef hash, paper goods and whatever else.

Holy Family

Town Meeting: Tuesday, September 21st, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in school. We want to share plans, hopes and dreams for the upcoming anniversary year. These plans include spiritual, cultural and social activities.

Our theme is “Holy Family, united as one family.” The earlier we get involved, the more inclusive our celebration can be. Please set this date aside so that you can be with us.

Sacrament of anointing of the sick, Saturday, Sept. 25th, 2004 at 10:30 AM here at Holy Family Church. At this Mass we welcome Jesus as Physician and Healer. We welcome the sick and pray that they be restored to health by the gift of his mercy and made whole in hiss fullness. All parishioners are invited as well as those who wish to receive this Sacrament. There is accessibility for wheelchairs from the entrance on Conklin Ave. Confessions will be available at 10:00 AM.

Volunteers are needed. If you could assist us with transportation to bring people for the anointing or bring cookies, cakes, etc. for a light refreshment or help set up and clean up, your help will be appreciated. Please call Lucy at the rectory (718)257-4423 to put your name on a list be it for cookies or help.

The first meeting of the year is on September 12th at 2:00 PM in Holy Family School. This group is open to the youth parishioners or if those who have ideas to share. Enjoyable,spiritual, fun, meaningful.

The First meeting of the year is on September 19th after the 12:45 PM Mass. The Rosary Society meets every 3rd Sunday of the month. New members are welcome.

New Registration for the 2004-2005 year of our Religious Education Program is still ongoing. Please call the Rel. Ed office at 257-8016 or the Rectory office 257-4423 for appointment.

If you have not yet re-registered your child for classes, which will resume in September, please do so as soon as possible. Materials and books must be ordered to have all ready for the opening meeting. If registrations are not received very soon, the child will not be able to begin classes on time. A late fee of $15.00 is imposed.

Registration is being held for any girl in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade who wants to join the Girl Scouts. Registration will be held in the Parish Center on Sunday, September 12th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

The next Rosary Society Meeting will be held on Sunday, September 12th following the 12 o’clock Mass. At the meeting we will be celebrating “Grandparents Day”. We ask all those who will attend the meeting to send in pictures of your grandchildren and/or grandparents for our display board.

The Rosary Society is hosting a bake sale after all the Masses on the weekend of September 18th and 19th. There will be homemade baked goods as well raffles. Everyone is welcome to participate, either by donating home baked goods or monetary gifts, or by purchasing the goods on sale.

Keep your calendars open for Saturday, October 16th. The Rosary Society will be hosting a Parish Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Island. Further information will follow in future bulletins.

We need a few more catechists for our classes beginning September 29, 2004. When we share our faith with others, we deepen our own knowledge of God and faith. If you think you can spare two hours a week to share God’s love with our children, call the Religious Education Office at (718) 763-2590.

There is also a need for catechists to work with children with special needs. We know there are some certified special education teachers in our parish. If any of you would be available to give approximately one half hour a week as a catechist, please call the Religious Ed Office.

The Parish Family Communion Breakfast will be held on Sunday, October 3rd, following the 10 am Mass. This breakfast is sponsored by the Holy Name Society and the Respect Life Committee.

Canarsie Community Reformed Church

The Canarsie Community Reformed Church is a culturally diverse church, seeking to reconcile all God’s children to Christ, through the renewing of the spirit and mind, and by living in conformity to the Word of God through Jesus Christ.

Weekly church activities begin on Sunday mornings with Sunday School for children and teens at 10:45AM and Sunday Service at 11:00 AM with sermons on inspirational and insightful topics.

Audio tapes of each Sunday’s sermon are available immediately after services.

Large print Bibles are available for the visually impaired, and a Conductive Loop System adaptable to T-switch.

Prayer Services are held on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM and Bible Study on Thursdays at 7:00PM.

The Youth Group meets on Saturdays at 7PM.

Special services include our Communion every first Sunday, and Healing Service every fifth Sunday.

Shrine Of St. Jude

Starting Friday September 10th at 7:30 P.M. and the 2nd Friday of each month, there will be Eucharistic Adoration and every Thursday there after there will be Bible sharing. They will take place at The Pro Sanctity Center at 730 East 87th Street, Brooklyn.

We send our prayers and good wishes to our college students who are leaving to begin their studies.

On Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 A.M. we will have a Parish celebration for the sick. During the Mass, the sacrament of anointing of the sick will be given. The sacrament is not “Last Rites.” The sacrament shows Jesus’ healing power of spirit for anyone who is seriously ill (even chronic illness like asthma) and for those of older age whose health is diminished. It is also for people who have mental illness like depression or who will have an operation in the near future. Afterwards there will be refreshments in Coyne Hall. If anyone needs a ride, please call the church.

We will again be having our Parish Picnic on Sunday, September 19th from 3:00 PM until dusk. It will occur on Canarsie Road which will be closed.

The annual Marian Pilgrimage of the Brooklyn Diocese is scheduled for October 23rd, 2004 at 6:00 A.M. Please leave your name and phone number and the fee in the office or with the Parish Coordinator of the trip, Alix Nelson.

On Friday, September 10th at 7:00 P.M. we will begin a program based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. This program enables a person to grow in their spiritual life; it will last 13 weeks. It will be held in the school. Anyone who is interested please leave your name & phone number at the church office or contact Sr. Mary at 241-4030.

Registration for Religious Education classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the school. Classes begin on Sunday September 26th at 9:00 A.M. The 12:30 PM Mass is our Bi-Lingual Mass. The first reading the psalm will be in the language of the day. September 12th it will be said in Spanish/

There will be no bereavement group meeting in September. The first one will be held on Monday, October 4th .

Sephardic Jewish Center

Canarsie Community Yeshiva

The Canarsie Community Yeshiva located at 1387 East 96th Street extends a gracious welcome to the entire Jewish community.

We are announcing that registration is ongoing for our community Yeshiva. Classes are held Sunday thru Wednesday evenings at the Yeshiva.

Classes are open to men and women of all ages. Young and old alike are afforded an opportunity to enroll in a Yeshiva program.

We encourage the Jewish community to devote at least one evening a week and join us at the Yeshiva and broaden their knowledge and background of Torah and tradition.

An open invitation is extended to the Canarsie community Daily Minyan Our Prayer Group is located at Congregation AAA Sfard 1385 East 94th Street. Services start at 6 AM, with study period from 6:35-7:05 AM.
