The Canarsie Courier Students of the Month for March are eighth grader Erica Edwards from Winthrop Intermediate School 232 and P.S. 244 fourth grader Gabriella Ansah.

In the submission for the intermediate school student, English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher Dawn Cejas wrote, "It is with great pleasure that I recommend Erica Edwards...She has the endearing spirit of helping all the she is president of many committees and the Arista Honor Society."

Cejas added that the 13-year-old who lives on Bedford Avenue with her family, is "well-behaved and mature beyond her years with a never-ending commitment to servicing her community."

Nine-year-old Gabiella Ansah was selected by her fourth grade teacher, Jayne Crockett, who summed up the youngster as "a shining star who sets high goals for herself and works diligently to achieve them."

Ansah, who lives with her family on East 53rd Street , was also chosen because "she is very conscientious about completing her assignments." Crockett also noted that her student "is always willing to help others and serves as a wonderful role model" for her classmates as a member of the school’s Peer Leadership Team.

Each Courier student of the month receives a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, a certificate and a T-shirt proclaiming their honor.
